Where Did The Name "Bricks" Come From?

When people hear the name Bricks Fitness, they often ask me the same thing: “Where did the name come from?”
To answer that, we have to go back to 2010, before I owned a gym, before the brand existed — back to the days when I was just a hungry young fighter trying to learn everything I could.
I started training with the Broken Smile Fight Team in a rural neighborhood, out of a little padded-up shed in my coach’s backyard. The space couldn’t have been more than 8 feet by 6 feet — barely enough room for a few of us to move around — but inside that shed, we worked harder than most people do in gyms ten times the size.
One day after a hard sparring round, one of my training partners laughed and said, “Man, every time you hit me, it feels like I’m getting hit by a brick.” From then on, he started calling me Bricks.
A few years later, while cross-training at another gym, I heard the same thing from another fighter:
“Feels like I’m getting hit by a brick.”
At that point, the nickname stuck. It became more than just something people called me in the gym — it became part of my fight identity. At that point, I had a big following. Selling over 100 tickets per fight and gaining sponsorships. It made sense to have a friend make me a logo that I feel he nailed on the first try. Next thing you know I was selling t-shirts, hoodies, beer koozies and other items my friends and fans could wear to my fights with that logo on it. I couldn't believe it. I took my name and somehow managed to turn it into a full-on brand. Years later when I finally opened the gym, there was no question what the name should be.
